Our Publishing Model: A Transparent Partnership
Purple Aardvark began as an entity initially created by a small group of writer friends to use as a publisher (in name only) for some self-published books. But the more we talked, and dreamed, and planned, we realized our vision was bigger than that.
We’re not a vanity press, and we’re not a traditional publishing house—we’re something in between. We call ourselves a hybrid publisher because that’s exactly what we are: a curated, service-supported model for publishing high-quality books under a shared brand identity.
- We do not accept every submission
- We do not charge reading or submission fees
- We only take on projects we believe in
- You will retain your rights and all royalties
- Fees are project-based, clear, and tied to actual services delivered
If we invite you into our publishing program, it means we believe in your manuscript—but we also believe in transparency: you will be asked to contribute to certain production costs, such as editing, cover design, and formatting. This helps us maintain quality while supporting ambitious, independent authors. Each year, we selectively partner with 3 to 5 authors whose work aligns with our editorial vision and brand. These books are published under our imprint, with the full weight of our editorial and design standards behind them.
We’re not here to sell you a dream—we’re here to help you realize a professional, finished book that stands up in the market.
